Plastic Birth is a multi-media sculpture installation by artists and uban ecologists Camille Belmin and Ramona Gomez, and video artist AVeryLongDay. The project was first realized in spring 2023 as an exhibition at the MOLT gallery in Berlin, Germany. The exhibition which consists of found object and trash photo, video and sculpture installations, investigates the transformation between death and life through nests, cradles, birds, icons, figurines, and technological waste. The piece aims to confront the trials of waste and destruction humans leave behind in pursuit of the new, the pure, the untouched spun by the fable of capitalism. By making a space to confront our trash and worship it, the installation encourages us to confront our notions of worth defined by what we own, and how we can shift our perception of worth from “new and old” to “reclaimed and transformed”.
